Glaucoma Treatment & Surgery Center

What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a chronic progressive disease of the eye, often accompanied by increased pressure caused by a buildup of fluid in the eye. This increased pressure causes damage to the optic nerve, leading to permanent vision loss. It is the leading cause of irreversible blindness, affecting 1 in every 50 adults. Early detection and treatment are critical in preventing permanent vision loss. Because patients do not experience pain, discomfort, or any other notable symptoms, it is important to have regular eye exams to monitor your optic nerve and the pressure in your eyes.

Although glaucoma is not curable, there is a variety of treatment options available, from eye drops designed to increase the flow of the fluid in your eye and decrease the eye’s pressure to laser treatments and surgical procedures. Dr. Stevens offers not only drop therapy but also laser treatments, trabeculectomies, and MIGS, Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery. Every patient’s treatment plan is customized to their specific needs. Dr. Stevens offers iStent, Hydrus, and Omni MIGS procedures, many of which can be combined with cataract surgery.
